(Biograph) Research in the Gu Laboratory focuses on the studies of neurodegeneration from traumatic brain injury (TBI) and cerebral ischemia. Studies include aging-related neurodegeneration on cognitive dysfunction, neuropathology, neurochemistry and proteome alternation in animal models. The mechanistic and translational investigations will aid for the development of biomarkers, preventive and therapeutic strategies. The Gu Laboratory uses multi‐disciplinary approaches with their toolbox including cell‐free protein interaction, primary neuron cultures including in vivo rodent models of neurodegenerative diseases along with biofidelic 3D cultures, as well as neurobehavioral assessment, machine learning (ML)-based digital pathology and quantitative proteomics, and biomedical informatic analyses. Ultimately, the endeavor of Dr. Gu’s studies supported with the cutting‐edge techniques and resources may lead to identifying potential biomarkers and therapeutic targets for neurodegenerative diseases. Dr. Gu also passionate about the training of scientists, physicians, and graduate students from all over the world, which as of now includes Cameroon, Cote D’lvoire, Ghana, China, Indian, Israel, Japan, Libya, Mexico, Nigeria, Philippines, Puerto Rico, South Africa, and Turkey. Dr. Gu received the 2020 Gold Chalk Award from the University of Missouri Graduate Professional Council to recognize faculty who have made significant contributions to the education and training of graduate and professional students.
