Department: Dept. of Industrial and Systems Engineering

Hyeong Suk Na is an assistant professor in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at the University of Missouri, where he leads the Smart, Sustainable, and Resilient Systems (SSRS) Laboratory. He is also a core faculty member of the MU Institute for Data Science and Informatics (MUIDSI) and an affiliated faculty member of the MU Quantum Innovation Center (QIC). Prior to joining Mizzou, he served as the Ervin Pietz Assistant Professor in the Department of Industrial Engineering at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. Dr. Na earned his Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from Pennsylvania State University and his M.S. in Industrial Engineering from Texas A&M University. Dr. Na’s research focuses on large-scale stochastic optimization, stochastic networks and simulation modeling, artificial intelligence and machine learning, emergency management, and traffic operations and control. He has served as an investigator on federally funded, foundation-supported, and industry-sponsored research projects, and has published more than 40 peer-reviewed articles in journals, conference proceedings, and edited volumes. Dr. Na has taught undergraduate and graduate courses spanning quantum optimization, stochastic optimization, stochastic processes and models, integer programming, reinforcement learning, artificial intelligence, data analytics, machine learning, simulation, probability and statistics, forecasting, and supply chain optimization. He is an active member of INFORMS and IISE and has served in division leadership roles, as well as track and session chair positions at their annual conferences.
